$ Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Smash Up

To be succint, this is exactly what you think it is. A great Super Smash Bros. clone featuring the TMNT license. Don't be fooled that there are no direct ties to Imagi's excellent 2007 CG film - it's clearly based on that universe. And it's largely a successful game - if you like Smash, you'll dig TMNT Smash Up. Especially since it's less hectic and more skill based.

The problem with this game is content. It runs out of interesting stuff FAR too quickly. The roster is pathetic, and the stages are mostly annoying or out-of-place (a western town? What the...). There are a bunch of mini games, but that'd be like buying Street Fighter IV for the car smashing bonus round. Also, online is both broken and there's no community there anyway, so don't count on extending your replay value that way. Like most reviews stated, this definitely should've incorporated content from THROUGHOUT the 25-year history of the Turtles. How about characters like Bebop and Rocksteady? Or their "Secret of the Ooze" counterparts, Tokka and Razor? A giant Mouser? Baxter Stockman? None of them are here. It's really light on stuff. And the soundtrack blows. Considering the Turtles' have brought us such classics as Ninja Rap, T-U-R-T-L-E Power and Pizza Power, there is a NOTICEABLE lack of early 90's R&B/Hip Hop flavor to the soundtrack. It's not offensive or anything, it's just generic, unmemorable background music.

Still, it's on Amazon for, like, 8 bucks. It's definitely worth it at that price. It's a good game, just not the TMNT game you might be hoping for. Really wish Ubi Soft would've given it another shot with a sequel, but that'll never happen now. Maybe Nickelodeon's new Turtles stuff for 2011 and 2012 will re-energize the franchise, and whoever gets it next will produce the fighting game we all want. This was close, but ultimately misses the mark. And probably isn't worth it if you have Super Smash Bros. Melee or Brawl.
